Dear colleagues,

let me remind you of the invitation to the MFF UK Physics
Institute seminar, entitled:

Machine translation and artificial intelligence

The lecture will be delivered in English.

Lecturer: Mgr. Martin Popel,
Ph.D.

Time: Tuesday, 9.11.2021, from 2 p.m.

Location: The lecture room of the MFF UK Physics Institute (F285,
the so-called studio), second floor, Ke Karlovu 5, Prague

Abstract:
The lecture will briefly present some of the tasks
computational linguistics deals with, such as automatic
correction of misspellings/grammar or automatic sentence
analysis. The main focus will be on the role of machine
translation, in particular the development of different types of
English-to-Czech translators over the last decade. Today's best
translators are based on artificial intelligence technologies,
namely deep neural networks,
and the quality of the resulting translation is close to
that of a professional translation agency. Some translation
errors are caused by translating individual sentences
independently, which is dealt with by document-level machine
translation.

The lecturer is involved in developing translators and
evaluating their quality at MFF UK. He is the author of a
Czech-English-French neuron translator available at
